My loves several years ago I wrote an entire series of articles about Hate. We discussed why people hate, why haters exists, the difference between haters and hateful people, how to respond to your haters, we shared Storytime from dealing with haters and so on. If you haven't checked out those articles, please be sure to search for them and take a look. Great content there.
Anyways, I want to further go into the topic of hate again today. If you are dealing with hate, particularly what you see as unwarranted hate, I want to help you become comfortable with the fact that people hate you. I don't want you to be overwhelmed by the hate or to internalize it.
My loves, realize that in this life, most people will have a hater or two at some point in their lives. It just is what it is. Much of it stems from jealousy, some of it from how they were raised, some of it from implicit biases, some of it is just one's evil hateful organic nature, but realize most of it is beyond your control.
No matter what you say or do there may be people that just hate you.
Many of us can easily accept explainable hate that is felt. For example, you have a neighbor or colleague or relative, you don't like them, they don't like you, there are known reasons for the dislike or disdain between the two of you, so it's whatever. You ain't tripping on them and care care less if they hate you.
What is harder to accept and deal with is when the hate doesn't make any sense. When people insist on letting you know that not only don't they like you but they truly genuinely hate you. These are people that you don't know or at best barely know. Maybe they're a neighbor that you wouldn't be able to point out in a lineup or a colleague who you have no direct relationship with or maybe just some random Joe who insists on hating you. You ain't done nothing to them, don't think of them, could care less about them but they're loud, bold and extremely forward in letting you know their feelings and you just don't understand why. It just doesn't make sense. You ain't done nothing to them, don't know nothing about them, wouldn't deal with them if you did. You mean them no ill will but at the same time they're just not on your radar. So their hate just doesn't make sense. It's inexplicable. It's bewildering. It's a very hard uncomfortable pill to swallow.
I recently watched a video from Heather Lindsey where she discussed being targeted by a person at church. A person didn't like her and spread rumors about her that weren't true. Of course she was hurt by it. This sort of thing unfortunately happens everywhere including at work, at home, at school, in the community and even at church.
Well, Mrs. Lindsey shard a scripture that resonated with me. It lifted a weight of sadness and hurt from me that was weighing heavy on my heart and soul and I believe when read and applied the scripture can be freeing to you as well.
If you are a believer and you are dealing with unwarranted hate, I pray that you don't let it bring you down. I pray that God keeps you in perfect peace. I pray that you realize that if God be for you it don't matter who or what is against you. Take your cares to the altar and tell the Lord all about your troubles. He will help you.
Write down and remember the following Biblical verses
John 15:18-25 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. Who hates me hates my father as well. If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen and yet hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is writing in their Law: 'They hated me without reason'"
John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome this world."
So my loves, you are not alone. They hated Jesus with no cause as well. There is a family of believers across the globe being hated with no cause.
Jesus warned us that we would have trouble in this world. But know that you my loves are special. You are chosen by God. You are one of His own. You belong to Him. Give your cares to God, tell Him all about your troubles and let His peace abide in you.
Study the Word my loves. Let the Word abide in you and provide you comfort.
I love you, don't worry about those who hate you or hate on you, focus on those who love you and remember to love yourselves my loves. You are beautifully and wonderfully made.
