Coworker Wants to Know How Much Money I Make
My coworker told me how much he earns and then immediately asked me what my salary was? How should I have responded?
Your coworker offering up how much he or she earns presumably without you asking or inquiring was a set up.
By volunteering how much he or she makes, he or she was offering a false sense of closeness, security and openness to make you feel comfortable and at ease enough to share you earning history with him or her.
Your salary is no one’s business except yours, your spouse, your employer and the IRS.
Simply respond that you don’t feel comfortable sharing or discussing such information and then, keep it moving.
